Inclusive Sessions

CoMotion is about developing dancing environments that are inclusive for all.  This means not only making adaptations for the neurodiverse and disabled, but also challenging the neurotypical and non-disabled. Within a CoMotion session everyone is valued equally, assumed to be competent and encouraged to always be curious about the creative process.  It is about being open to suggestions and  asking questions about what individuals need.

My experience in inclusive practice has come from raising a daughter with Rett syndrome who is non-verbal and has limited motors skills and working at SEN schools for many years with neurodiverse students of many differing physical abilities.

CoMotion currently offers monthly workshops for the Dorset Children’s Foundation for children with SEN and their families, as well as occasional exclusive sessions for people with PMLD.

What to expect

Sessions can be adapted and changed according to individual needs. CoMotion uses pre-recorded music and movement activities together with sensory props that help transform the space and enhance interaction, communication and dance.  The props used are not only there to stimulate the auditory, visual, tactile but also the proprioceptive (about where the body is in space) and vestibular (about balance and movement) senses.
